Solicitation for NSF-Census Research Network
The National Science Foundation and the U.S. Census Bureau invite teams of researchers to submit proposals for the conduct of long-term interdisciplinary research and educational activities on methodological questions of interest and significance to the broader research community and the Federal Statistical System, particularly the U.S. Census Bureau. The NSF-Census Research Network will provide support for a set of research nodes, each of which will be staffed by a team of scientists conducting interdisciplinary research and educational activities on methodological questions of interest and significance to the broader research community and to the Federal Statistical System, particularly the U.S. Census Bureau. The activities will be expected to advance both fundamental and applied knowledge as well as further the training of current and future generations of researchers in research skills of relevance to the measurement of economic units, households, and persons.

Anticipated Funding Amount: $18,500,000 in FY 2011, subject to the availability of funds.

Updates on the 2010 Census

The Census Bureau announced that 74 percent of U.S. households filled out and mailed back their 2010 Census questionnaire, matching the final mail participation rate achieved in the 2000 Census. The final mail participation rates for the nation, states, counties, cities, towns and neighborhoods are available through a web tool.

CUNY’s Mapping Service, Center for Urban Research – led by Steve Romalewski – has updated the final 2010 Census participation rates and the comparable final 2000 Census participation rates to the Census 2010 Hard To Count mapping website.

On Monday, Nov. 1st, from 2 to 3 p.m. (EDT), Census Bureau Director Robert Groves will brief the media on the status of 2010 Census operations. Groves will discuss the final 2010 Census mail participation rates and 2020 Census planning. There will be a live webcast of the briefing, accessible here.

Notable Data Publications
Each week, APDU Data Update usually identifies recent statistical agency data releases and discussions of interest to APDU members. This week, however, it will provide an overview of the Environmental Protection Agency’s statistical resources, which, unlike most other agencies, are primarily in the form of regularly updated on-line databases rather than time-specific datasets and reports.
