Senate Passes Census Oversight Efficiency and Management Reform Act of 2010

Yesterday the Senate passed S. 3167 (Census Oversight Efficiency and Management Reform Act of 2010), sponsored by Sen. Carper and Sen. Coburn, to establish a 5-year term for the Census Director; provide that the Census Director will report directly to the Secretary of Commerce (he/she currently reports to the Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs); and to promote greater use of technology, especially Internet response option, in future censuses. The House may take up the bill before Congress adjourns for the year. APDU members are urged to communicate their opinion on this matter to their representatives in the House.
