Webinar: Challenges and Improvements for the 2012 Commodity Flow Survey
May 25, 2011 2:00 – 3:00 PM EDT Register
The Commodity Flow Survey (CFS) has long been recognized as one of the flagship data collection programs of the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The CFS collects data from approximately 100,000 American businesses and provides the most comprehensive public data on the movement of goods in the nation. Data are provided on the types of commodities shipped, origins and destinations, values, weights, modes of transport, distance shipped, and ton-miles. Initiated in 1993, the CFS has been conducted in partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau as a component of the Economic Census. As such, it is conducted on a 5-year cycle with previous surveys in 1993, 1997, 2002, and most recently in 2007. Planning is now underway for the next CFS in 2012. This webinar will discuss the special challenges of this survey and planned improvements for the next cycle.
