Census Releases OnTheMap for Emergency Management 3

The U.S. Census Bureau recently released OnTheMap for Emergency Management Version 3.  OnTheMap for Emergency Management Version 2 has been concurrently withdrawn.  Version 3 is a significant upgrade and offers a number of new capabilities and data additions to assist emergency preparedness, response, and recovery activities.

 

Important changes and improvements include:

  • Expanded Report Content – the addition of Decennial 2010 Demographic & Housing Characteristics; 2010 Jobs & Worker Data
  • New Emergency Event Data – the addition of FEMA Disaster Declaration Areas & NWS Snowfall Probability Forecasts
  • More Complete Hurricane Archives – capture & archiving of all daily NHC Storm Updates
  • New Analyses & Visualizations – new Reports with charting & thematic map overlays showing population & worker distributions
  • New Interoperability – new tool for exporting event areas to use in OnTheMap or other GIS applications
  • Updated Interface and Help Documentation – improved user interface speed and navigability; improved event searching; newly updated help documentation

Census Releases OnTheMap Mobile and OnTheMap Version 6.1

The U.S. Census Bureau has released Version 6.1 of the OnTheMap application.  A major new feature of this release is OnTheMap Mobile, a mobile-optimized version of OnTheMap that can be accessed though IOS and Android web browsers.  OnTheMap Mobile can be accessed here, and more information about the relase, including system requirements, is available here.

The Summer Data Conference is an opportunity for professional networking, updates on federal and national activities affecting data collection and reporting, and information about the best new approaches in collecting, reporting, and using education statistics.  The Summer Data Conference will include training and business meetings for state CCD and EDFacts data coordinators.  In addition, NCES postsecondary education experts will provide sessions that increase your knowledge of postsecondary data environments and data systems such as IPEDS.  There will also be a range of informative sessions targeted toward interests in Common Core of Data, Common Education Data Standards, data collection, data management, data privacy, data dissemination, data linking beyond K-12, data standards, data quality, data usage, growth models, education research, school finance, and Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems.  Learn more here.

2012 Consumer Expenditure Survey Microdata Users’ Workshop

The annual CE Microdata Users’ Workshop sessions are geared to microdata users of all levels of experience, from new and novice users to seasoned experts.  Participants receive both “hands-on” instruction on how to compute results from the microdata and attend presentations describing both methodology and results of recent research.  In addition, the workshop features individual appointments for users of any experience level to discuss their project or proposal with knowledgeable CE staff members.  Attendance is free.
