APDU has begun its Public Data University webinar series, an in-depth look at the data sets of all the major statistical agencies.  There are three levels of webinars: 101, 201, & 301.  There are also four areas of statistical focus: Economic, Social and Demographic, Health and Safety, and Natural Resources, Energy, and Environment.

These webinars are a cornerstone of APDU’s new training initiative and are free to APDU members, with cost to non-members.  The first webinar is the 101 on economic statistics at the Census Bureau, Weds Jan 22, 3-4 pm.

The Census Bureau’s Education Program
Building on the success of the 2010 Census in Schools program, the Census Bureau is working on a program called Statistics in Schools that will educate students about the value and everyday use of statistics in a contemporary and dynamic manner.

 

Census 2020 Budget Needs Full Funding
Full funding for the Census Bureau in the current fiscal year (FY) will be essential not only to effective preparation and testing for the next decennial Census, but also to the continued improvement of the American Community Survey (ACS).

OnTheMap Upgrades – New Business Firm-Level Data and Improved PDF Reports
The Census Bureau has updated the popular OnTheMap tool with firm-level statistics, such as firm age and firm size.

 

Visualization of the Week

 

 

The Census Bureau has released an infographic to compliment it’s report, “Poverty: The History of a Measure.” The report offers a snapshot of economic research since President Johnson’s War on Poverty starting in 1964.
