APDU has learned that the Senate and House are developing appropriations proposals that must ready in the next few weeks. To that end, APDU will be coordinating outreach to both committees, as well as to key individual members of each, calling on the House and Senate to increase the total Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) budget request to $631.4 million.

The pilot phase of the new site, which is a subset of the U.S. government’s open-data publishing website Data.gov, is focused on coastal flooding, sea level rise, and their consequences. Over 80 datasets for weather, census, flood hazards, and other areas are available from the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Geological Survey, NASA, and the U.S. Department of Defense.

Disability and health insurance reform
As health insurance becomes available outside of the employment relationship as a result of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the cost of applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) will decline for many people with employer-sponsored health insurance. At the same time, the value of SSDI and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) participation will decline for individuals who otherwise lacked access to health insurance. This paper studies the 2006 Massachusetts health insurance reform to estimate the potential effects of the ACA on SSDI and SSI applications.

Agriculture statistical tables no longer updated The statistical indicator tables formerly provided in Agricultural Outlook magazine are no longer being updated. The data provided in most of those tables are maintained online elsewhere on the ERS website or by the primary data providers.
