Budget news for BEA and BLS; Commerce strategic plan

The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) has announced that it will restore a portion of statistical detail to its Local Area Personal Income (LAPI) program. Meanwhile, with appropriations precedings looming in the Senate and House, APDU has called for a restoration of cuts (since FY2011) to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) budget, per the President’s FY 2015 request. Finally, Commerce unveiled its America is Open for Business strategic plan, FY 2014-2018. One of the plan’s five priority areas is to redefine the management of government data as well as making it more accessible to the public.
