Two-Part Webinar on Supplemental Poverty Measure
A two-part series of webinars on the Census Bureau’s new Supplemental Poverty Measure will take place this week and next week, co-sponsored by the Brookings Institution’s Center on Children and Families, Half-in-Ten, National League of Cities, New America Foundation, and Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity. Part I of the webinar, “A Supplemental Poverty Measure: What It Will and Won’t Do,” will be held on April 14th at 2:00 and will feature speakers from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the Seattle Foundation, and the House Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support. This webinar will focus on why the measure is needed and how it differs from the existing poverty measure.
Part II of the series, “Behind the Scenes: Adopting a Supplemental Poverty Measure,” will be held on April 21st, and will cover the issues surrounding political support for the measure, and state and local efforts to adopt more accurate measures of poverty. Speakers will include Rebecca Blank, Undersecretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs, Ron Haskins of The Brookings Institution, and Mark Levitan of the New York Center for Economic Opportunity.
