Census Bureau Seeks Comments on Supplemental Poverty Measurement
The Census Bureau has issued a request for comments on the approach to developing a Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM) presented in the report “Observations from the Interagency Technical Working Group on Developing a Supplemental Poverty Measure.” The Working Group’s report is available online at http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/poverty/SPM_TWGObservations.pdf. The SPM is an experimental measure that defines income thresholds and resources in a different manner than the official poverty measure; it will not replace the official measure or impact allocations based on that measure.
