Department of Commerce & OMB Release Statistical Portrait of Women in America
The Department of Commerce and the Office of Management & Budget recently released Women in America: Indicators of Social and Economic Well-Being. The report is the first of its kind to pull together information from across Federal statistical agencies to compile baseline information on how women are faring in the United States and how these trends have changed over time. The report includes statistics on topics related to people, families, and income; education; employment; health; and crime and violence. The state of Iowa also recently released a similar report.

Senate Proposes $44 million Cut to Census’ Periodic Censuses and Programs Account
The Senate approved its version of a long-term Continuing Resolution (CR) for FY2011 on March 8. This version of the CR proposes a funding level of $942 million for the Census Bureau’s Periodic Censuses and Programs account, which is $44 million below the FY2011 request level. This cut eliminates duplicative and overlapping analysis performed by other agencies or issued in other ways by the Census. The figure is also significantly higher than the most recently approved House funding level of $833.7 million, which is 15.5% lower than the Administration’s request.
