Census Bureau Releases Updated Beta Version of DataFerrett

The Census Bureau recently released an updated Beta version of DataFerrett, which includes several new features designed to improve access to the 2005-2009 5-year ACS Summary File in DataFerrett.  Learn more here.
 

 

NHGIS and SABINS Launch New Websites

 

The new National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) and the School Attendance Boundary Information System (SABINS) were recently launched.  The new NHGIS site features:

  • A new front page providing more manuals, FAQs, and project information
  • A new data access system based on filters that allow users to request data for multiple years and geography levels in one extract
  • New data, including 2010 Redistricting data and associated shapefiles

The SABINS site features:

  • Grade-specific school attendance areas for thousands of school districts in the United States
  • 2010 Redistricting data for the school attendance areas
  • Crosswalks linking the school attendance areas to the National Center for Education Statistics’ Common Core of Data

Calls for Comment

 

APDU maintains a list of open calls for comment on proposed federal data collections (http://www.apdu.org/advocacy.asp).  We periodically alert APDU members to newly added calls for comment.  Over the last several weeks, calls for comment on the following proposed data collections were published in the Federal Register (with due date):

 

Bureau of Labor Statistics

  • Current Population Survey (CPS) Disability Supplement (December 19, 2011)

Institute of Education Sciences

  • Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) 2013 Field Trial (November 16, 2011)

National Agricultural Statistics Service

  • Field Crops Objective Yield (December 19, 2011)

Fellowship Announcement:
PAA Fellowship

 

The Population Association of America Fellowship is open to doctoral scientists from any discipline relevant to population research.  This fellowship provides researchers with an opportunity to use population science outside of an academic setting to inform public policy and work for one year in a federal agency in Washington, DC.  The goals of the fellowship are to contribute to the effective use of scienti@257;c knowledge about population in the formation of public policy; to educate the scienti@257;c community about the development of public policy; and to establish a more effective liaison between population scientists and federal policymakers.
