APDU Data Update

News

The Association of Public Data Users is pleased to announce the launch of its revitalized website, accessible at www.apdu.org.  We think the enhanced navigation, improved graphics, and streamlined format gives APDU an up-to-date web presence.  The new site will also support our efforts to deliver more current updates and greater use of social media for communication.

Notable Data Publications

Each week, the APDU Data Update identifies recent statistical data releases of interest to APDU members.

In November, the Census Bureau, with assistance from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and in consultation with other appropriate agencies and outside experts, introduced a new measure of poverty to complement the official measure, which has been in use since the 1960s. The Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM) is intended to better reflect contemporary social and economic realities and government policy effects and thus provide a further understanding of economic conditions and trends. This presentation will provide some technical background on the differences between the SPM and the official poverty measure and present estimates of the prevalence of poverty at the national level – overall and for selected demographic groups – for both the official and supplemental measures.
