Open Data includes operational and administrative data used by public agencies for statistical purposes.  It’s changing the world of data users and producers alike.  This conference focuses on understanding this phenomenon and how it will impact data programs and uses.

Census Project Releases New Report Documenting National & State Effects of Eliminating ACS

The Census Project recently released a new report of case studies and comments from a wide variety of local and national organizations on the uses of the ACS.  The report, Eliminating America’s Playbook, demonstrates the range of uses of the American Community Survey and the impact of its potential elimination. 
 

 

Invitation for Nominations to the Advisory Committee on Agriculture Statistics

 

The Secretary of Agriculture has renewed the Advisory Committee on Agricultural Statistics’ charter for a two-year term to expire on June 5, 2014.  Nominations are being sought to join the committee.  The purpose of the Committee is to advise the Secretary of Agriculture on the scope, timing, and content of the periodic censuses and surveys of agriculture, other related surveys, and the types of information to obtain from respondents concerning agriculture.  The Committee also prepares recommendations regarding the content of agriculture reports and presents the views and needs for data of major suppliers and users of agriculture statistics.  More details are available here.

Special district governments make up a significant portion of local government economy yet tend to be the most misunderstood type of government.  In the past 50 years, special districts have outpaced their county and municipal counterparts in growth in number and significance.  This presentation will use Census data to explore the evolution of this type of government over time and explain how these governments are structured, how they operate, where they exist, and what purposes they serve.
