BTS Intermodal Passenger Connectivity Database Released

More than half of all U.S. transportation terminals offer intermodal passenger connectivity among at least two scheduled passenger transportation modes, according to a new passenger connectivity database released by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).  The Intermodal Passenger Connectivity Database (IPCD) shows that 68 percent of terminals in urbanized areas offer intermodal connections, but only 7 percent of terminals in rural areas offer the same service.  Rail stations are the most likely terminals to offer connections, while airports are the least likely terminals to do so.  See Intermodal Connectivity Facts for more summary information.  The complete IPCD database contains details about connections at more than 7,000 passenger terminals, including the type of connecting facility, the geographic location of the connection, and the types of connecting modes.  Release of the IPCD completes a five-year BTS effort to collect data on intermodal connections in the passenger transportation system.

O*NET Lay Titles Database Now Contains Over 44,000 Distinct Titles

The Lay Titles file provides a list of alternate occupational titles that are linked to the SOC and O*NET-SOC classification systems.  The file was developed to improve keyword searches in several Department of Labor internet applications (i.e., Career InfoNet, O*NET OnLine, and O*NET Code Connector).  The original file largely consisted of occupational titles from existing occupational classification systems.  By using many diverse sources for occupational titles, including information gathered from job incumbents and occupational experts in the O*NET Data Collection Program, the file has grown to include over 44,000 distinct titles.  Learn more here.
