Census Bureau Releases American Community Survey Estimates, Most Detailed Portrait of Every U.S. Community
The U.S. Census Bureau has released estimates from the American Community Survey (ACS) for the combined years from 2007 to 2011, providing the only statistics down to the neighborhood level on school enrollment, jobs, housing and many other measures. These estimates are ideal for measuring trends for areas with populations of less than 20,000. Read the full release here.

Census Bureau Reports Increased State Government Revenues and General Expenditures for 2011
Total state government revenue increased to $2.3 trillion in 2011, up 11.3 percent from $2.0 trillion in 2010, according to the latest report from the U.S. Census Bureau. Total state government revenue includes general revenues (mainly tax revenue), utility revenue, liquor store revenue and insurance trust revenue. General revenues were $1.7 trillion in 2011, a 5.7 percent increase from 2010. General expenditures by state governments rose 3.7 percent in 2011 to $1.7 trillion. Read the full release here.

Youth and Work: Restoring Teen and Young Adult Connections to Opportunity
The Annie E. Casey Foundation finds that nearly 6.5 million U.S. teens and young adults are neither in school nor in the workforce. With employment among young people at its lowest levels since the 1950s, these youth are veering toward chronic unemployment as adults and failing to gain the skills employers need in the 21st century. In addition to new national and state data on the issue, the report offers recommendations to support youth in gaining a stronger foothold in the economy. Download the report here.

IES Report on Translating Effect Sizes for Practitioners and Policymakers
The Institute of Education Sciences (IES) has released a report to help researchers translate effect size statistics into more interpretable forms that are helpful to practitioners, policymakers, and researchers. Aimed at researchers who conduct and report education intervention studies, the purpose of the report is to stimulate and guide researchers to go beyond simply reporting statistics that represent group differences. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA) held a Webinar on Using BLS and Census Disability Statistics for Employment and Training Decisions on November 14, 2012, which consolidated a wealth of information and resources on disability employment data in one place, including 1) the most recent findings on disability and employment; 2) the most important U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and Census Bureau sources, and how to decide which source best meets users needs; 3) live demos of the two principal Census Bureau customized data tools; and 4) a preview of the upcoming BLS special 2012 disability employment survey.
