Census Bureau to Release New Features in American FactFinder

The U.S. Census Bureau has released new features for American FactFinder, an online data tool that allows users to access a variety of Census Bureau statistics, including decennial, American Community Survey and economic census statistics.  The new features include a simplified main page design, the option for a guided search and an enhanced community facts tool, providing options for both novice and advanced data users.  Discover more here.

 

 

First Look at Key Demographic Characteristics of New Congressional Districts

For the first time, the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey is providing access to detailed demographic data on congressional districts for the 113th Congress.  These statistics include age, education, occupation, income and veteran status.  They are accessible via Easy Stats, the Census Bureau’s new online tool offering quick and easy access to American Community Survey data.  These statistics are drawn from the most recent five-year American Community Survey sample, tabulated for redistricted congressional districts of the 113th Congress.  See more here.

 

 

First Annual Data Innovation Day a Major Success

The purpose of Data Innovation Day was to raise awareness about the benefits and opportunities that come from increased use of information by individuals and the public and private sector.  The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation kicked off the day with a panel discussion in Washington, DC on “Data Innovation in the Government.”  Senior leaders from the Departments of Energy, Education, and Health and Human Services discussed their latest initiatives with open data, as well as Teresa Carlson with Amazon Web Services and Jason O’Connor with Lockheed Martin to explain the benefits of data.  Watch the webcast here.
