White House Signs WIOA, Releases Action Training Plan President Obama signed the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) into law on July 22nd, after overwhelming approval in the House and Senate. On the same day, Vice President Biden released findings from his review of federal job training programs, a task given to him by the President in the State of the Union address.

The Highway to High-Quality Student Data Systems Following the four roadmaps released this spring, Data Quality Campaign announced the publication of two new roadmaps designed to further support states in the development and use of high-quality data systems. These new roadmaps, focusing on K?12 and postsecondary linkages and safeguarding data, give states a closer look at the steps they can take to ensure their education data are best supporting student achievement, providing examples of high-quality data initiatives from model states.

BLS Seeks Revisions to CPS The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) announced it is seeking approval for a revisions to the Current Population Survey (CPS). The CPS questionnaire has been revised to add three questions on certification/licensure and remove three questions on educational attainment.

The 2014 KIDS COUNT Data Book The KIDS COUNT Data Book is an annual publication that assesses child well-being nationally and across the 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Using an index of 16 indicators, the 2014 report ranks states on overall child well-being and in four domains: (1) economic well-being, (2) education, (3) health, and (4) family and community.

Federal Reserve Unveils a New Job-Market Index Federal Reserve staff economists have created a new ?labor markets conditions index? that uses a statistical model to summarize monthly changes in 19 labor-market into a single handy gauge.

Census Provides Data in Downloadable Format County-level data files in comma-separated value format (.csv) are available for tax years 1997 through 2003. Previously, statistics for these years at the County level were only accessible from the Census Bureau’s website by using the online HTML tables.

Majority of Avg Weekly US Wages Below National Avg ’13 In 2013, average weekly wages in the majority of U.S. counties were below the national average of $958. Among U.S. counties, San Mateo, California, had the highest average weekly wage ($1,983). Delta, Texas, had the lowest with $378.
