Census Releases Additional 2011-2013 ACS Statistics The U.S. Census Bureau released the second of its annual series of data sets from the American Community Survey (ACS), this one combining the three years of data collected between 2011 and 2013. The statistics paint a detailed portrait of the nation, all states, and the District of Columbia, all congressional districts and all other geographic areas with populations of 20,000 or more.

Advocating the Transformative Power of Commerce Data Under Secretary Mark Doms participated in a high level data discussion at the Strata+Hadoop World Conference in New York City. Before an audience of 500 leading technologists and data programmers, Under Secretary Doms talked with host Jennifer van der Meer, Adjunct Professor at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program and CEO of Reason Street, to explore the Department of Commerce’s strategic data plan and Doms’ efforts to move the federal statistical system into the era of big data.

American Housing Survey: 2013 Detailed Tables The first findings from the 2013 American Housing Survey are now available in the form of dozens of detailed tables and a microdata file. Topics new to the American Housing Survey this year are disaster planning and emergency preparedness, public transportation, household involvement in neighborhood and community activities, and the prevalence of ?doubled-up? households, such as those with an adult child living at home.

Improvements to BLS Data-Retrieval Tools The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has made available a new option that allows data users to choose whether to include annual averages when they use BLS data-retrieval tools.
