ACS Drops Questions Including Field of Degree
A hot topic at recent meetings at the Council of Professional Associations on Federal Statistics (COPAFS) and the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) was the ACS? decision to drop a number of questions including Field of Degree. The comment period for this extends through December 30, and APDU members are welcome to submit a comment on the issue.

ACS Data Users Conference Call for Abstracts
The American Community Survey (ACS) Data Users Group is inviting abstracts on any topic relating to ACS data issues and applications, but is especially interested in new and innovative uses of ACS data, and ACS applications that inform policy and business decisions. New & Updated Data Sources

 

Census Releases New ACS Data
On November 4, the Census Bureau released 2009-2013 five-year estimates from the American Community Survey (ACS). The release includes new tables on field of bachelor’s degree, health insurance status, poverty status, and year of naturalization.

 

Census Releases Special Feature on Young Adults
A new Census Explorer feature, Young Adults: Then and Now, allows users to compare young adults (18-34) across the 1980, 1990, and 2000 decennial censuses and the 2009-2013 ACS five-year estimates and track changes in demographic, social, economic, and housing characteristics.

 

New Data Source on US Regulation
RegData is an innovative new way of measuring the size and scope of US federal regulation. It is currently in beta.

 

New Troves of Government Data on Water and Ecosystems
The Department of Interior and other Executive Branch agencies and offices are releasing, on climate.data.gov, new troves of government data on water and ecosystems, as well as new geospatial tools, as part of the President?s Climate Data Initiative.  Earlier installments of that initiative focused on data relating to sea-level rise, flood risk, and agriculture.

 

BEA Improvements Increase Regional Data
Operational improvements at the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) mean the public will soon get to see more regional economic data. These improvements will safeguard businesses? private information, while ensuring vital regional data is available to policy makers and other data users.
