Call for Presenters: CE Microdata Users’ Workshop
Have you used the publicuse microdata files from the Consumer Expenditure Survey (CE) in research you have conducted? If so, BLS would like to invite you to present your work at the upcoming 10th annual CE Microdata Users? Workshop, to be held July 15-17, 2015, following the half-day CE Survey Methods Symposium on July 14.

 

President?s 2016 Budget Would Expand Labor Market Data
President Obama has presented his fiscal year 2016 budget request to Congress. That budget proposes $632.7 million in funding for BLS, an increase of $40.5 million over our fiscal year 2015 funding. The 2016 budget proposes new funding to help BLS meet some important data needs.

 

Commerce Data Advisory Committee Members Announced
March 4 marked the announcement of the naming of members to Commerce Department?s new Data Advisory Committee (CDAC).  The 19 leaders they have selected will help guide the Department in revolutionizing their approach toward data optimization and usability.

Visualizing the Decline of Labor Unions
Quoctrung Bui of National Public Radio has created a time lapse visualization illustrating the decline of union membership in the United States since 1964. Each state is color coded based on percentage of its workforce belonging to a union. The data is pulled from the U.S. Census? Current Population Survey and the Bureau of Labor Statistics? Directory of National Unions and Employee Associations.
