APDU Annual Business Meeting

In a time of change in the federal statistical system and the federal government generally, APDU has been keeping you informed and prepared. Our Weekly Updates, annual conference, webinars, and even a new training course have kept us busy during 2016. Want to know what?s in store for 2017?

 

APDU is excited to announce our Annual Business Meeting on December 6, 2016, at 3:00 PM EST. The meeting will be convened by webinar and open to all APDU members.

 

The APDU Board of Directors will report on the state of the association, present this year’s accomplishments and goals for the coming year, and answer your questions.

 

 

 

Webinar: Introducing J2J Explorer! (Date Changed)

The U.S. Census Bureau and the Local Employment Dynamics (LED) Partnership in collaboration with the Association of Public Data Users (APDU), the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER), and the LMI Institute, welcomes Mr. Matthew Graham, Mr. Heath Hayward, and Ms. Joyce Hahn as they present, ?Introducing J2J Explorer! An Innovative Data Tool on Statistics on Worker Reallocation in the United States.? The Job-to-Job Flows Explorer (Beta) is a web-based analysis tool that enables comprehensive access to an innovative new set of statistics. The application?s interactive visualizations allow for the construction of tables and charts to compare and analyze the flows by worker and firm characteristics. Potential analyses include job flows across industries and state boundaries.

Commission on Evidence-Based Policy Solicitating Input

The Commission on Evidence-Based Policy wants to hear from you. The Commission is soliciting input from stakeholders on issues relevant to the Commission?s charge, established in Public Law 114-140. They are interested in hearing about data access issues, barriers to research, issues related to the capacity of states to engage in data and evidence building and issues related to privacy and confidentiality.

Data Coalition 2017 Policy Agenda
The Data Coalition seeks to transform government information into open data. Open data requires two steps: first, standardize the information using nonproprietary data elements and structures; second, publish the information for open access. Open data has three benefits: better public accountability, improved internal data-driven management, and automated reporting for cheaper compliance. The Data Coalition focuses its advocacy efforts on transforming three key areas of public-sector information: government management, markets and economy, and law and regulation.

Updating Congress on Testing for the 2020 Census

The Census Bureau is continuing to make great progress at the U.S. Census Bureau in preparing for the 2020 Census. On Nov. 16, John Thompson testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Government Operations that our preparations remain on track and on schedule.

Federal Privacy Council Law Library
The Law Library is a compilation of information about and links to select Federal laws related to the creation, collection, use, processing, storage, maintenance, dissemination, disclosure, and disposal of personally identifiable information (PII) by departments and agencies within the Federal Government. The Law Library does not include all laws that are relevant to privacy or the management of PII in the Federal Government.

 

Three-Country NATS Database Updated

New three-country data was added to the North American Transportation Statistics (NATS) Online Database in the 12th annual website update.

Where Are the Jobs?
This visualization plots one dot for every job in the United States, according to the Census Bureau’s Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics data. The LEHD data is based on state unemployment insurance records, and tabulates the count of jobs by census block. Here, jobs are colored by type, allowing us to see how different industries and sectors exhibit different spatial patterns–some clustering in downtowns, others spreading across city and suburbs alike.
