Chief Statistician Request for Information

OMB?s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs is seeking to establish priorities and coordinate research efforts across the Federal Statistical System to focus on improving federal statistics. In particular, a priority has been placed on using new techniques and methodologies based on combining data from multiple sources.

 

To support this effort, OMB/IRA has published a RFI in the January 12 FEDERAL REGISTER requesting information on:

  • Current and emerging techniques for linking and analyzing combined data;
  • on-going research on methods to describe the quality of statistical products that result from these techniques;
  • computational frameworks and systems for conducting such work;
  • privacy or confidentiality issues that may arise from combining such data; and
  • suggestions for additional research in those or related areas.

New & Updated Data Sources

 

New State-level Education Information Available
State-level data on statewide science, math, and English assessments, and computer science graduation requirements are now available on the State Education Reforms website. The State Education Reforms website draws primarily on data collected by organizations other than the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), which compiles and disseminates the information in five sections.

 

Census Bureau Releases Docs Supporting PUMS
The Census Bureau announced the first release of documentation in support of the 2012-2016 ACS 5-year Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) files. This documentation offers ACS data users the opportunity to prepare for the release of the PUMS files on January 18, 2018. The 2016 tab of the PUMS Technical Documentation page now includes code lists, subject definitions, and the data dictionary.

European Food According to Italians
Yanko Tsvetkov, the man behind the Culinary Horrors of Europe Map, has created another food related map titled: The Culinary Map of Europe According to Italians. Italy of course is at its core, the only place you can find real food. Then radiating out you have other Mediterranean food that?s mostly safe to eat, although some caution may be advised.
