The National Center for Education Statistics within the Institute of Education Sciences has updated the Career/Technical Education (CTE) Statistics website.
The CTE Statistics website includes tables describing CTE at three levels:
Secondary/high school CTE,
Postsecondary/college career education,
Adult education for work. These tables are updated periodically to incorporate new CTE-related topics and data from new surveys.
In this update, two tables were added to the secondary/high school tables, with one table updating information on CTE high schools as of school year 2007-08, and one new table summarizing CTE teachers’ perceptions of and satisfaction with their jobs. Six tables were added to the postsecondary/college tables, replacing tables on student persistence and attainment as of 2001 with updated tables on persistence, attainment, and labor market outcomes as of 2009.
Investigative Reporters and Editors Announces Next Phase of the Census Project
The Census project is designed to provide journalists with a simpler way to access 2010 Census data so they can spend less time importing and managing the data and more time exploring and reporting the data. The project is the result of work by journalists from the The Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, USA Today, CNN, the Spokesman-Review (Spokane, Wash.) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, funded through generous support from the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism. Download bulk data here.
New Data Added to O*NET Website
The 17.0 database is now incorporated within My Next Move, My Next Move for Veterans, and O*NET OnLine. Comprehensive data is available for 900 O*NET-SOC occupations. Specifically, the 17.0 database updated 108 O*NET-SOCs. The database also includes new and updated Work Values data for 83 occupations.
NSF Announces Interagency Progress on Administration’s Big Data Initiative
The National Science Foundation, with support from the National Institutes of Health, has announced nearly $15 million in new Big Data fundamental research projects. These awards aim to develop new tools and methods to extract and use knowledge from collections of large data sets to accelerate progress in science and engineering research and innovation.
These grants were made in response to a joint NSF-NIH call for proposals issued in conjunction with the March 2012 Big Data Research and Development Initiative launch: NSF Leads Federal Efforts in Big Data.
