Education Research, NCES Bill Clears Senate Panel

On September 17, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee marked up and reported out the Strengthening Education through Research Act, or SETRA (H.R. 4366). The bill, which was passed by the full House of Representatives in May, would amend and reauthorize the Education Sciences Reform Act of 2002 (ESRA) through 2020.

 

NIH Issues Final Genomic Data Sharing Policy

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently issued its final NIH Genomic Data Sharing (GDS) policy designed to promote data sharing as a way to accelerate the translation of data into knowledge, products, and procedures that improve health but also protect the privacy of research participants.

 

NASS Invites Nominations to Advisory Committee

The National Agricultural Statistical Service (NASS) is seeking to fill six open seats on its Advisory Committee on Agricultural Statistics. The Advisory Committee “draws on the experience and expertise of its members to form a collective judgment concerning agriculture data collected and the statistics issued by NASS.”

For first time, census data on married couples includes same-sex spouses

The Census Bureau released new data that for the first time counted same-sex spouses along with all other married couples in its largest household survey, which, despite the new additions, showed no reversal in the long-term national decline in marriage.

3D Visualization Tool Organizes Pharmaceutical Molecules

Seattle-based information design company Schema worked with multinational pharmaceutical company Amgen to create Amgen Molecule Vision, a visualization tool for molecular information. The visualization includes 3D representations of various biological molecules and lets users search, filter their results, and view molecules with similar attributes.
